Your first Making Tax Digital deadline is 7 August.
Get your MTD records organised, without building a system from scratch
The MTD Ready Kit gives UK sole traders a practical record-keeping system for staying on top of income, expenses and the records needed for Making Tax Digital.
Who it's for: UK sole traders who want a clear, repeatable way to keep their business records organised for MTD.
What you get: A ready-to-use record-keeping system with the tools and guidance needed to capture income and expenses consistently, without piecing the process together yourself.
What happens next: Buy the kit for £29 + VAT, download it, and follow the included guidance to set up your records. It comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee. This kit provides practical information and is not legal advice.

last-minute 7 August checklist.
This kit is the workbook that keeps your quarterly totals ready to file; it is not MTD software and not tax advice.
Your rolling 12-month turnover against the VAT threshold, updating as you go. It tells you you are approaching £90,000 while you still have time to do something about it.Every invoice, with the overdue ones flagged and counted. This is the tab you fill in. That is the whole job.
What it does for you
Know your quarterly totals are right before the deadline, not after. The Ops Workbook keeps income and expenses already grouped into the categories HMRC asks for.
Stop guessing whether you are near the VAT threshold. A rolling 12-month monitor tells you before it matters.
Never lose a mileage claim again. Log trips at the approved 55p and 25p rates as you go (the car rate rose to 55p for the first 10,000 miles from April 2026).
Get paid faster without an awkward email. Three chaser templates, from a friendly nudge through to a statutory-interest notice.
Keep 31 January boring too. The final declaration still exists; a Self Assessment prep checklist keeps it a non-event.
Do all of the above without thinking about it. A 30-minute weekly routine is the engine behind the rest.
File each quarter in about ten minutes. A quarter-end handoff maps your workbook totals to the exact fields your MTD software asks for, and a printable year-at-a-glance puts all five dates on one page.
Every checklist and template comes as a clean, branded PDF alongside its editable file, and your
key PDFs are personalised to you at download. Current edition: v1.5, with free updates for
this edition from your Gumroad library.
Why trust this
Every MTD rule on this site is checked against GOV.UK and dated. The free
deadline checker cites its source. We say plainly what this
kit is not, just below, because you should not buy the wrong thing. Built by Max Lloyd, a UK
sole trader who has to do all of this too.
£29 once. Not £10 a month, every month.
A one-off, not another subscription. Most accounting software bills you every month, for as long as you use it. The kit is £29, one time, with tax-year updates to this edition free.
Run every side hustle in one workbook. Subscriptions usually charge per business, and some track only one. A spreadsheet does not care how many trades you run; they all live in one place.
Built to catch what slips through the net. Entry counters, tagging flags and quarter totals that reconcile, so a missed receipt or a mis-tagged expense shows up before the deadline, not after it.
Every field is yours to edit. Recolour it, rename it, bend it to how your business actually works. It is your spreadsheet, not our software.
£29 + VAT · one-off
Gumroad is the merchant of record and takes payment in US dollars, not pounds: your card is charged the US-dollar equivalent of about £35 including VAT, and your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee. One-off, no subscription.
An accountant's hour is typically £50 to £150. This is a one-off under £35 that you use
for four deadlines a year, every year, with tax-year updates to this edition free.
14-day no-questions refund, regardless of the immediate-download waiver at checkout. Instant download. Sold by Gumroad as merchant of record, who add UK VAT.
At checkout you'll be asked to tick a box agreeing to immediate
delivery: “I agree to immediate delivery of this digital content and
acknowledge that I lose my 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts
Regulations 2013.” Our own 14-day refund policy applies anyway.
Honest limits, read before buying
This kit is not MTD software and not tax advice, and it does not
submit anything to HMRC. You'll still need MTD-compatible software (there are
free options, gov.uk lists them, and we point you there). What the free
software doesn't give you is the record-keeping habit that means there's
something accurate in it each quarter. That habit layer is what this kit is,
and if that's not what you need, don't buy it.
Who it's for
UK sole traders in (or heading into) MTD for Income Tax, mandatory over
£50,000 gross from April 2026, £30,000 from 2027, £20,000 from 2028, who do
their own admin. If your accountant runs everything for you already, ask them
first; this may duplicate what you're paying them for.
Refunds
14 days, no questions asked, regardless of the immediate-download waiver you
accept at checkout. Faulty or not-as-described content is covered beyond 14 days
under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Refunds are processed by our checkout
provider (Gumroad), who act as merchant of record for the sale.
Not ready to buy? Do not miss the deadline anyway.

Questions
Does this submit my quarterly updates?
No, submission needs MTD-compatible software (free options exist; the kit
links gov.uk's list). This kit is the record-keeping system that means the
numbers are ready when the software asks.
I'm under the threshold, is this pointless?
The threshold drops to £30k in 2027 and £20k in 2028, and the habits are
the same ones that make ordinary Self Assessment painless. But if you want
it purely for MTD and you're years away, you may not need it yet, that's
an honest answer.
What format are the files?
A ZIP with .xlsx (Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers), PDFs, and editable versions of the checklists.
Is this a subscription?
No. One-off purchase; tax-year updates to this edition are free.
Something's broken / I can't download it
Email support@trycashpilot.com and it gets fixed, usually same day.
